Product Overview: Scott Aerator Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator (4-Panel)
Transform Your Pond with Sustainable Beauty: The Scott Aerator Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator (4-Panel)
Experience the perfect blend of stunning water features and eco-friendly technology with the Solar Powered DA-20 Display Aerator. Ideal for remote locations or anyone seeking to reduce their carbon footprint, this innovative system provides powerful aeration and a captivating fountain display without relying on traditional electricity.
Moving an impressive up to 300 gallons of water per minute, the DA-20 creates a dynamic, adjustable pattern reaching approximately 5 feet high and spreading 9 to 20 feet wide. This vigorous water movement is your key to a healthier pond: it effectively clears surface algae, enhances water clarity, deters bothersome insects, and significantly boosts dissolved oxygen levels. Higher oxygen is vital for thriving fish populations and accelerates the natural breakdown of organic sediment on the pond floor, leading to a noticeable reduction in muck over time.
Built for longevity and zero maintenance, the DA-20 features a robust, oil-free stainless steel submersible motor. This durable design ensures years of reliable performance and represents the most environmentally conscious aeration solution available.
Designed for seamless daytime operation, the unit harnesses solar energy, intelligently adjusting its speed based on sunlight intensity and automatically shutting off at night. The included solar PV panels provide a gradual increase in water flow as sunlight strengthens, eliminating the need for expensive and often problematic battery banks required by many other solar aerators.
Like all Scott Aerator Company products, the DA-20 Solar Aerator is engineered for hassle-free year-round use. Simply leave the aerator in the water, disconnect the power for winter, and it will be ready to operate as soon as the ice thaws in the spring. All components are built to withstand freezing temperatures without damage.
Your complete package includes the DA-20 Display Aerator, four high-efficiency solar panels with a sturdy mounting frame, a disconnect box, a Fhoton™ drive solar inverter, and all necessary wiring. Please note you will need to supply a vertical pole for the panels and frame, a concrete base for the pole, and two anchor ropes with weights or tethers for the aerator.
Proudly manufactured in the USA, the DA-20 Solar Aerator is backed by an industry-leading 5-year unconditional motor warranty. It comes standard with 70 feet of heavy-duty, 12-gauge submersible power cord, with longer lengths available up to 150 feet to suit your specific needs.
This versatile unit is suitable for both fresh and saltwater environments.
Important Safety Note: Always ensure the power source is disconnected when swimmers are in the water.
Easy Setup Guide
1. Simple Unit Assembly
Assembling your Scott Aerator Fountain is quick and easy, typically taking only 15-20 minutes. Detailed instructions are included with your purchase. Your fountain kit contains:
- Pump with cylindrical housing and attached power cord
- Durable square float platform
- Protective stainless steel screen
- Decorative nozzle (Note: The DA-20 is a display aerator and does not use decorative nozzles)
- 5/16"x2" stainless steel bolts
- Stainless steel nuts & washers
- Self-tapping stainless steel screws
Tools You'll Need: A wrench (or socket driver) and pliers.

Step-by-Step Assembly:
- Place the fountain housing on a stable surface with the pump outlet facing upwards.
- Attach your nylon rope (not included) to the two stainless steel eyebolts for later anchoring.
- Position the float onto the housing and secure it using the provided 5/16" x 2" bolts, washers, and nuts.
- Flip the assembled unit over, remove the Styrofoam ring, and install the stainless steel filter. Align the pre-drilled holes on the housing with the marks on the filter. Secure the filter using the three included self-tapping screws.
2. Optional Lighting Installation (Skip if no lights were ordered)
Easily enhance your fountain's beauty with Scott Aerator fountain light kits, designed to attach directly to the square float platform. Light kits include:
- (2) or (4) high-quality LED light fixtures with power cable
- 1/2" bolts & nuts
- (2) or (4) durable stainless steel arm brackets
- Essential timer/control unit
- Remote control (included with color-changing lights only)
Tools You'll Need: Wrench & Pliers
*Important Note: The included timer/control unit is essential for operating the lights. Do NOT detach the cord from the control unit, as this will void the lights' warranty.

Step-by-Step Light Assembly:
- Attach each arm assembly to the fountain float. Ensure the arms are positioned with the “L” facing upwards. Remove one of the 2" bolts securing the float to the housing. Align the holes on the stainless steel arm with the bolt holes. Reinsert the bolt with a washer through the housing, float, and stainless steel arm. Secure with a washer and nut. Repeat for all arm assemblies.
- Attach each light fixture to the slotted end of the stainless steel arms. Insert a 1/2" x 1/4" bolt downwards through each light bracket and steel arm, then secure with a 1/4" nut. The lights can be easily adjusted along the arm by loosening the lock nut, sliding the light to your desired position, and re-tightening the nut.
- Connect the lights to the Timer Control Unit. Align the pins carefully and screw the connector together only a half turn. Avoid forcing the connection to prevent damage to the O-ring or wiring.
3. Placing Your Fountain in the Water
- Once fully assembled, your unit is ready for placement in the water for final adjustments and anchoring.
- Handle the fountain with care, avoiding resting its weight on the stainless steel filter.
- After the fountain head is submerged, secure it by screwing it into place (Note: This step is not applicable to the DA-20 display aerator).
- Float the fountain to your desired location in the pond. Secure it using the attached nylon ropes tied to the shore or by using two concrete blocks submerged at least 20 feet apart for stability.
- Finally, connect your fountain and lights (if applicable) to the established power source. Always use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) and consult a licensed electrician for power source installation to ensure safety and compliance.
Selection Guide: Choosing the Right Scott Aerator Product
Choosing the Ideal Motor Size
- The motor size directly influences the size and flow rate of your fountain's spray pattern. A larger motor means more powerful water movement and a bigger or denser spray.
- Selecting the right motor size depends on your budget and the dimensions of your pond. A helpful guideline is to maintain at least 10 feet of distance between the edge of the fountain spray and the pond's edge to prevent water loss.
Choosing the Correct Voltage
- If you are uncertain about voltage, please contact us for expert guidance.
- If you are using a 115V power source, it's crucial to consider the maximum recommended distances from the pump to the breaker (this includes the length of the power cord).
- For 230V systems, distance is generally not a significant concern, offering greater flexibility in placement.

Maximum Recommended Distance from Pump to Breaker on 115V |
1/3 HP 115V |
280' |
1/2 HP 115V |
250' |
3/4 HP 115V |

Choosing Optional LED Lights
- Enhance your fountain's nighttime appeal! Light kits can be purchased with your fountain or easily added later. They attach directly to the float platform.
- Lights operate on 110V and come with their own dedicated power cord.
- Choose between elegant single-color warm white LED lights or dynamic color-changing LED lights.
- Both options include a programmable timer for automated operation. The color-changing lights also come with a convenient remote control with a range of up to 1,000 feet.
- A 2-light set is recommended for 1 HP motors and below.
- A 3-light set is recommended for 1.5 HP and 2 HP motors.
- A 4-light set is recommended for 3 HP motors.
Choosing Optional Timers
- Add convenience and automation to your fountain operation. Timers can be purchased now or added later.
- Note: These timers are designed specifically for controlling the fountain pump, not the lights.
-
FAQ: The primary difference between the residential and commercial 230V timers is the enclosure material: residential boxes are plastic, while commercial boxes are metal. Both provide the same functionality.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Fountains
Q: How do I select the appropriate fountain for my pond?
A: This is a common question! Start by determining your primary goal: is it aeration, aesthetics, or a combination of both? If aeration is your priority, our Aerating Fountains move significantly more water than decorative fountains. For visual appeal, we offer a wide range of options. Ensure your pond meets the minimum depth requirements and that the fountain's display pattern will fit within your pond's dimensions. Each fountain product page provides detailed display dimensions to help you choose.
Note: Fountains are most effective at aerating water up to approximately 6 feet deep.
Q: What horsepower should I choose for my fountain?
A: Horsepower indicates the motor size, which directly impacts the size and intensity of the spray pattern. Regardless of horsepower, always ensure your pond is deep enough and large enough to contain the spray pattern. Our fountains are generally best suited for ponds a quarter acre or larger, depending on the pond's shape. Consider your budget and the desired visual impact when selecting horsepower.
Q: Should I hire someone to install my fountain?
A: A licensed electrician should always install the power source if one is not already present near your pond. Once the power source is ready, our fountains are designed for relatively simple installation. Many customers successfully install their own fountains to save on costs, but consider your comfort level and available resources.
Q: Which voltage is better for my application: 110-120V or 210-240V?
A: 210-240 volts is generally the preferred option, especially if the power source is located more than 70 feet from the main breaker. Ensure your power source is capable of handling the higher voltage to provide sufficient power for continuous operation. Choosing the lower voltage (110-120V) for a long distance can result in inconsistent operation or the fountain not running at its full capacity. Please contact us if you have any questions about voltage selection.
Q: Are lights included in the price of the fountain?
A: No, lights are not included by default. You have the option to order them with your fountain or purchase them separately later. Attaching the light kits to the floating unit is a straightforward process and a popular addition to enhance nighttime visibility and beauty.
Q: What factors determine the cost of the power cord?
A: Material costs are a significant factor in power cord pricing. We offer various power cord options for our fountains, ranging from 14-gauge copper or stainless steel wire to heavier 4-gauge copper or stainless steel wire, depending on the size of the fountain motor and the required cord length.
Q: Can I leave my fountain in the water during the winter?
A: Yes, Scott Aerator Fountains are designed to remain in the water throughout the winter months. You can choose to run them continuously to keep an area ice-free or turn them off completely. Once the ice melts in the spring, they can be safely turned back on.
Aerators
Q: Can aeration improve my fish's health and help clean my pond?
A: Absolutely! Aeration is the fundamental first step in improving water quality and clarity in a pond, directly benefiting fish health and aiding in the natural cleaning process.
Q: How do I choose the correct aerator for my pond?
A: The size and depth of your pond are the key factors in selecting the appropriate aerator. Our website categorizes products based on pond size (in acres) to help you narrow down your options. Surface Aerators and Aerating Fountains are suitable for ponds less than six feet deep, while Sub-Surface aerators are recommended for deeper ponds to ensure oxygen reaches the bottom.
Q: How do I install my aerator?
A: If a power source is not already installed by the pond, you should consult a licensed electrician for this step. Our aerators are designed for easy installation once the power source is ready. Many customers successfully install the equipment themselves to save money, but consider your comfort level and available resources.
Q: How should I set up my aeration system for optimal results?
A: An ideal aeration setup often includes a combination of a surface aerator or aerating fountain to address surface issues and a Sub-Surface aerator to circulate oxygen released from the pond's bottom, providing comprehensive water circulation and oxygenation.
