Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I choose the right fountain for my pond or lake?
A: Consider your primary goal: aeration, visual appeal, or both. For superior aeration or a combination, our Aerating Fountains with their high flow rates are ideal. If aesthetics are key, explore the various display options and confirm your pond meets the minimum depth and the spray size is suitable for your space.

Q: How do I determine the required horsepower for my fountain?
A: Horsepower directly impacts the size of the spray pattern. Ensure your pond meets the minimum depth requirement for the chosen horsepower and that the spray will not extend beyond the pond's edges. For ponds a quarter acre or larger, your choice can be based on your desired visual impact and budget.

Q: Is professional installation necessary for my fountain?
A: If you don't have a power source conveniently located near your pond, we recommend consulting a licensed electrician. However, fountain installation is generally straightforward, and many customers successfully install their own units to save on costs. The fountains float in the pond, secured by two anchors, and connect to your power source via a submersible cord.

Q: How do I decide between a 110-120V and a 220-240V fountain?
A: For power sources located more than 70 feet from the main breaker, we strongly recommend opting for a 220-240V unit. This ensures adequate power delivery and prevents voltage drop over longer distances. Always verify that your power source can handle the higher voltage for consistent performance.

Q: Are lights included with the fountain purchase?
A: Lights are not included as standard but are a popular and highly recommended option! They can be purchased with your fountain or added easily at a later time. They attach directly to the floating unit for stunning nighttime displays.

Q: Why is the power cord a significant cost?
A: The cost of the power cord reflects the high-quality materials used. Depending on the fountain model, the power cord is constructed from durable 14-gauge to 4-gauge copper or stainless steel wire, built to withstand submersible conditions.

Q: Can I leave my fountain in the water during winter?
A: Yes, Scott Aerator Fountains are designed for year-round operation. During winter, you can either run them continuously to keep an open area in the ice or shut them off completely. Once the water thaws, simply restart your fountain.
